With the DMS Warehouse Management System, you can drastically affect your bottom line. DMS can help you put more cash in the bank, reduce shipping errors, increase customer order fill rate, increase inventory turns, and gain complete confidence in your inventory accuracy.
The Warehouse Management System is used to:
- Configure your warehouse
- Receive Merchandise
- Ship Merchandise
- Move Product
- Cycle Count
- Analyze Inventory in the Warehouse
Our WMS uses Forklift-mounted, touch screen computers, in conjunction with a full scale office component to let you manage everything going on in your warehouse. You increase control and save time and money at the same time.
With the DMS WMS, you know exactly where your inventory is, even if it is on a forklift, truck, or consignment location. You can find inventory by purchase order number or customer order number. You maintain complete inventory accuracy by cycle counting on the schedule you determine.
Warehouse Configuration:
The Warehouse Configuration component offers a simple solution to configure and maintain the warehouse while increasing control and improving inventory tracking. Initial configuration or reconfiguration of the warehouse is simplified with the multiple location generation facility. Definition of each area of the warehouse as a location, including components such as forklifts, staging areas, and delivery trucks supports the virtual warehouse.
- Inventory tracking and control are enhanced by maintaining each component of the warehouse as a location, uniquely identified with a barcode label.
- As many storage types as necessary to meet the needs of warehouse operations such as rack, bulk, cold storage, floor, staging can be defined.
- Staging areas can be sub-divided into as many categories as necessary to meet the needs of staging requirements, such as check area, forklift, truck, or staging area.
- The warehouse is quickly and easily configured, or reconfigured, with the multiple location generation facility.
- Locations can be added individually or with the multiple location generator and modified as required.
- Location configuration includes velocity of item to be stored in the location and velocity of the location, allowing the warehouse to be structured in away that maximizes put away and pick activity.
- The ability to restrict warehouse locations to a customer for custom, pre-paid, or blanket orders ensures that the merchandise is always available for the customer.
- Items can be restricted to location types ensuring that an item is always stored in the correct type of location.
Receiving:
The Warehouse Receiving component provides significant flexibility to meet the demands of the receiving process and to maintain controls throughout the process. Working in conjunction with the forklift computer, the Warehouse Office System provides the ability to review, reassign, and override delivery unload information entered by the operator. The combination of the forklift and office systems provides improved management of staff workload and equipment utilization, resulting in more effective warehouse operations. In addition, there are no surprises because you always know what vendor arrivals are coming in on a given day. This makes you and your vendors much happier.
- Advance scheduling improves management of deliveries into the warehouse on a given day or time of day.
- Deliveries not scheduled in advance or updates to advance scheduled arrivals can be done at the time of arrival.
- Inventory counts are entered by item on the forklift computer and verified to purchase order items and quantities, ensuring the accuracy of product and quantity.
- The progress of unloading can be reviewed in real-time, at any point during the unload process in the warehouse office.
- The Office System review process provides the opportunity to recount, suspend, restart, or reschedule an unload providing improved staff and workload management.
- Bar code labels can be printed "on the spot" for unlabeled merchandise, promoting greater control in pick and put-away functions and cycle counting.
- System recommended locations for inventory received ensure that the location is available for an item, removing guesswork, and ensures that the product and location match in velocity.
Cycle Count:
With DMS Cycle Count your inventory is reliable. This translates into increased customer order fill rate and reduction of safety stock levels and overbuying to prevent “stock out”. In addition, cycle counting reduces OR ELIMINATES the need for full inventory counts. If you choose to do a full count, variance can be as low as 1/10th of 1% (0.01%) of your inventory value. Plus, it will take you a fraction of the time that counting currently takes you!
- Cycle count periods can be defined based on the frequency desired for all items to be counted, such as monthly, quarterly, or semi-annually.
- Flexibility is provided to perform cycle counting based on item or warehouse location.
- Once count frequency and type is defined count requirements are generated randomly, ensuring the integrity of the count.
- Blind count process is used for cycle counting ensuring accuracy of the count.
- A count discrepancy during the cycle count will automatically add the item to the next days cycle count schedule.
- A count discrepancy during shipping, receiving, post delivery, and return merchandise will schedule a count of the item for the next day.
- Inventory shrinkage and variances are identified in a more timely manner with cycle counting.
- Items can be added to the cycle count schedule at any point in time.
- Two types of variances are supported to account for item variance by location and actual variance.
- Approval of a variance will automatically update the value of inventory on the General Ledger, using the FIFO cost for item.
